BOARD MEETING SUMMARY
April 7, 2010
The April Regular Meeting of the CREC Board of Trustees was attended by all nine Trustees, CREC staff and CREC’s attorney.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS
The following reports were provided to and reviewed by the Trustees as part of the consent agenda: Connected and Disconnected Services, Operations, Engineering and Corporate Development’s reports.
CEO SESSION Board Communication: Mr. Swank reported on new technology that will increase communication with the Board. OAEC/Federated Safety: Mr. Swank reported that future safety training will include more hands on training in the field enhancing our safety program and reducing risk. OAEC Annual Meeting: CREC received first place for our Annual Report and Best Editorial. Annual Meeting: Mr. Swank reported on numerous initiatives to increase Annual Meeting attendance including busses to Annual Meeting from assigned locations in an effort to increase member involvement. Member Participation and involvement: CREC continues to research ways to increase member involvement through increased communication and use of technology. Strategic Study Series (Planning For Automation): This month’s study series included discussion of how Down-line Automation can be utilized effectively for increased efficiencies and productivity. The series outlined effective planning methods that increase opportunities for Return on Investment.
SMART GRID PROJECTS
Mr. Swank reviewed the Smart Energy Source initiative and current alternative energy pilot projects. The pilot projects are offering great insight and understanding related to member and cooperative benefits and challenges.
NRECA DIRECTOR’S CONFERENCE
Three Trustees attended the NRECA Director’s Conference shaping policy, creating understanding, developing partnerships per continual training and education as a Trustee for CREC. They stated it was a very beneficial meeting. It is important that we have active grassroots and member involvement, not allowing legislation to be approved that does not benefit our membership. We must energize our constituents to motivate our legislators. They attended classes relating to the board’s role in shaping policy, the role of renewables in the cooperative, working with the bankrupt member and the balanced scorecard.
DISTRICT MEETING UPDATES
The recent District Meetings were reviewed with the following results: District Six had 61 members with 118 total attendance. District Five had 53 members with 94 total attendance. 26
District Eight had 41 members with 82 total attendance.
This was the first time to combine the District meeting and Aware meeting together, presenting Our Energy Our Future, Building a Culture of Excellence and Smart Energy Source initiatives.
