Youth Tour: Finding history, friends and fun in D.C.

Joining more than a thousand young people from across the country, Oklahoma Youth Tour delegates, including two sponsored by Central Rural Electric Cooperative, experienced the sites, sounds and history of Washington, D.C., this summer.

The 48th annual Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, June 10-16, included 71 high school students from Oklahoma, including Alicia Reynolds, from Stillwater, and Joseph Beck, from Mulhall. Oklahoma’s delegation toured the U.S. Capitol, Smithsonian museums, Arlington National Cemetery and enjoyed a riverboat cruise on the Potomac River.

Highlights of the trip included, “meeting new kids from all over Oklahoma and gaining confidence to help me later in life,” said Reynolds, while Beck added, “getting to see the monuments and museums as well as making life-long friends.”

Each year CREC sponsors two tour delegates, who must win a Youth Tour essay contest to join the trip. Visit the www.crec.coop youth programs Web page to learn more.
