CREC and Arkansas Electric Cooperative based out of Little Rock, Ark., partnered to build the new 200,000 square foot Touchstone Energy Utility Distribution Center as a distribution center for this region and thus become CREC’s sole source provider of distribution materials.

Discussions of the sole source concept began in 2004 when CREC began realizing the need for new warehouse facilities. Arkansas Electric has been a CREC vendor for years and was interested in the sole sourcing concept because of its good working relationship with CREC and CREC’s location. The talks led to a system referred to as Vendor Managed Inventory meaning that the vendor, Arkansas Electric, actually owns and controls the inventory until it is sold to CREC and other utilities from the warehouse in Stillwater.

The Touchstone Energy Utility Distribution Center is located on the CREC campus, south of the main building.
